Avril made sure that all of her children were dressed, still with the exception of Daniella. She was getting more and more worried about her daughter, no matter how often she called. Today's not about Daniella, she reminded herself, going downstairs to see if anyone else was ready

Yeah, thanks, she nodded, gesturing at her sister to leave. She just wanted the day over with, really. And yet.... on some level, she was also clinging on to it, too. A funeral was meant to be a way of saying goodbye, letting go, and she didn't know if she knew how to do that.

I think he'd like that, Matthew replied softly, immediately regretting the words as Charlotte choked up again. A bit hesitantly, not knowing what else to do, he placed an arm around her, and she leaned into his shoulder. He wished he could say something to reassure or comfort her, but he was lost for words.

A moment later, she got to her feet, and let her brother guide her out of the room, and outside. She was almost blinded by her tears, almost unable to see, but she still thought she could make out where everyone was waiting, the outline of the pyre. That mere thought had her choking up again, and she hesitated, for a fraction of a second fighting the insane temptation to just run.

Charlotte hesitated, fractionally, and had to force herself to go forwards, join the others. She also forced herself not to go stand by Lyle, remaining alone. All the others were there, even her baby sisters, all 8 remaining uncharacteristically silent as if they understood the sombrety of the day.

Avril had gathered her family, as well, and all the Calwins and wolves were present as well. Although barely any of them had really known Ryan when he was alive, everyone present understood that it was still important

Still her tears were blurring her vision, reducing Ryan for her til he was nothing more than an outline. But then, that's what he was now, she thought, an outline, just a body. He was gone, long gone. It was time for her to say goodbye, and let him go. Something made her feel like it was only she who could do that.

She continued to stand there, too close, really, as she stared, hypnotised, into the flames. Their light was split and reflected from her tears, glowing eerily upon her cheeks, making her hair seem red. Still she remained there.
