What ways are there of getting round there? I know there are abilities like stealth or deception, saying a lie without knowing it's a lie, and possibly saying a truth which'd be misinterpreted, but are there any others?

Re: Lie Detection
Kk, yeah I'd forgotten Info Concealment, Blocking, Cloaking etc. But I was asking more about non-ability ways, really. I'm referring to W5, where my characters have select secrets and lies they'd like to be able to keep undetected Or we could just go with Gabriel not having Lie Detection in that world, since it is borderline and he hasn't used it there to my knowledge?

Re: Lie Detection
hmmm... unless they answer the question without lying. But slyly not answer the direction directly.

Re: Lie Detection
That's what I was thinking But when the truth is like the complete opposite of the neccessary lie, it's a bit difficult!!

Re: Lie Detection
There's a way to cheat on actual lie detector tests, by stabbing yourself with a pin, that apparently messes with the answers But aside from powers, I don't think there's a way to be immune Unless you're naturally a very good liar, because I'd guess if you want a weakness, you could say that if you could keep your heart rate level and breathe regularly, you would be able to get away with cheating?

Re: Lie Detection
Damn..... can he please not have it, then? Cause I can't imagine Saph never having to mention the fake breakup or giving up fighting in front of him or Pippa, and I don't particularly want Peter to have to cover it up with Stealth..... yeah, I've remembered all the lies they're meant to be using

Re: Lie Detection
i guess it depends on the way lie detection or lie detecting abilities work. If they work by monitoring heart rate an sensing when a person is nervous thus must be lying, i guess you could get around it, but if its by knowing a lie by means of reality manipulating/knowing then i guess not

Re: Lie Detection
It's the first option, that's confirmed. And if it worked by sensing the truth, it wouldn't matter if the speaker believed the lie or not.

Re: Lie Detection
Just thought up a few more questions about this ability. Basically, would the ability sense lies which were written instead of spoken, or sign languaged? If the person possessing the ability was deaf, would they sense a lie which was lip read?
Similarly, could Truth Activation force a person to write or sign the truth too?

Re: Lie Detection
I think you could manipulate the truth to something complete opposite, though it would be very hard. Or just avoid to answer the question, then the person wouldn't be lying.

Re: Lie Detection
Being really silent would be suspicious though I think in W5, Pippy agreed to pretend he didn't have it, or too much would get exposed.
Any ideas for my questions in the last post?

Re: Lie Detection
I actually think that depends on the limits one wants to set on the ability. Maybe the written thing depends on if the person is there or if it was a letter sent to the person with the ability, like distance. And if the person can kind of sense how the heart rate is increased and all the different tells that appears when people lie, and the deaf person who mimes or use sign language, written text is a moderate lair, then maybe it could work on it.

Re: Lie Detection
Good call, I don't think normal lie detection would work on a letter read when the writer isn't there. Similarly, it shouldn't really work if you were talking to someone on the phone.
