Can shapeshifters turn into any form or just humans?

Do you think shapeshifters can say turn into an animal or just humans? Or is this a different power perhaps?.

I'd guess a different ability. And maybe there could be yet another one to turn into an inanimate object.

True but that'd have to be anther power for sure. since its not copying dna but molecules. Whereas animals is still dna albeit different type of dna but still.

Copying DNA would let you take any living form I just think they'd have showed it if possible. And then there's the question if they'd keep enough of themself to be able to shift back.

Oh yeah. bit like how harry potter have wormtail and hes pretty much alot like a rat man anyway because hes been a rat for so long.

Has there been a character with animal mimicry in the GNs? That'd suggest it's a different ability
