In spite of herself, Aira did stop. This isn't happening. A Torti? Her? Even the thought was proposterous to contemplate. She wasn't a warrior, she was just Aira of Camelot, an ex-seamstress looking for work and a better life. She left Camelot for peace, now she was being told her destiny was in war? In killing? No, it was impossible.

Aira it is your destiny. Aira remained silent. I understand that you don't believe me, but Aira, I can prove it to you. you just have to trust me.

Trust you? Why the hell would I trust you! Aira was getting angry now, she could feel a seething hate rise within her. Aira, daughter of None, would never be a killer and no one, not even destiny would make her one.

Have I or any of my family given you reason to mistrust us? Like it or not I am on your side Aira. I can help you to help the world, to save it. To save many lives.

Save the world by killing a lot of people, of yeah that makes perfect sense, why didn't I think of that before? Oh wait, because I'm not insane.

King Vension stared hard at Aira for a few moments. Do you not understand? These people are about to destroy the world! They want to kill all the mortals, can you bear to think of that? Could you have that on your conscience? all those deaths? Aira, by killing a few people you would be saving the world. You would be saving all those innocent mortals from all the pain and suffering Oherin would mpart onto them. We need you, we need your help. All those people need you to stand up and fight for them because they cannot fight for themselves. They need you to take on this responsibility, they really really need you. Aira, the world needs ou to do this, you were chosen as a Torti. Destiny has given you this responsibility - will you accept it? Will you save the world?

Aira shook her head. She felt on the edge of tears. She didn't want this, she didn't want any of this. I-I c-can't... I'm sorry. I can't do this, I'm not a killer. I-I don't want to...

Vension said firmly, You have a choice of course, in a sense. When Aira didn't reply he continued Let me prove it to you. Follow me.

King Vension walked out of the garden, and hestitantly Aira followed. Again, it felt like an endless corridor of white. Right turn,left turn, spiral staircase down, left turn, left turn, right turn. It all looked the same to her.

As they walked in silence, Aira was turning everything over in her head. I can't let all those people die, I couldn't live with myself if they did. But, in order to save people I must kill others? It makes no sense at all. There must be another way, why can't I just stop their schemes from coming to fruitition? I hate this. Aira laughed hollowly. I would perfer to be living in fear under Uther then this.

Why did they send you? she questioned. His voice kept the same clinical, detached tone as he answered.

You were powerful. Important. That was all they said.

Me? But I'm.... I'm not important, I can't be! I'm not even a full bloodwitch, I'm half human!

He chuckled, but there was no mirth at all in his voice.

Vension lead Aira out into a courtyard. People moved around them sparing, some with wooden swords, some with metal. They were in the training grounds. Aira's heart jumped a beat, her head felt like it was going to explode, she felt physically sick.

Feel it? The heart and soul of a Torti resides within you and so you can feel the presence when other Tortis are close. Well, do you want to meet the other Tortis?

But.... she trailed off, failing to find an eloquent protest. She just couldn't accept that she could ever be that important, vital enough to kill over. She was.... she was just Namarien. That was all. Throughout the time her mind was struggling with this, Circh was simply watching her silently, as if knowing exactly what she was feeling.

It can't be, she shook her head desperately.

She shook her head, though she was more denying the situation than his words. She still couldn't believe it.

It is, he repeated again, his voice growing soft. Believe me, Nam.

She visibly started at his instinctive use of the nickname she'd never given.

Aira nodded meekly.

Rako!

Aira heard some movement behind her. Instinct told her to whip round, sword in hand and cut down whatever was there. But something stopped her, her headache was worse than ever.

Aira meet Rako.

Aira turned around tentitively and stifled a scream. Before her stood a black humaniod figure with three veritcal sets of eyes and no nose. She noticed the eyes were unnervingly independant of each other.

You didn't expect all the Torti to be human did you?

The thing named Rako walked closer up to her in slow graceful movements. It smiled gleefully. She didn't know why, but Aira found herself liking Rako. She seemed...nice. She felt a sudden bond with her, like she had known her all her life and yet she had only just met her.

The bond between the Torti's is strong. Together you are a fearsome force for good in the world, divided you are nothing.
But I thought you said there were seven Tortis?
There are, but not yet. Right now only five have been choosen. When I say all I mean all of you at the moment. The rest will come when they are tested and found worthy.
Why can't we just wait until the other Torti's are chosen to fight?
We don't have time, many many lives are at stake. And you need to start immediately.
Aira looked at Rako. She seemed so happy, she obviously thought that attacking Oherin was a good idea. Could she do it? Could she save the world? She knew the answer just by looking into Rako's many eyes.What's the plan then?

BOOM.
Aira remembered the past few days as just a blur.
BOOM.
Meeting the other Torti's Jace, an energy Dragon from Mongolia, and Dryad, a dryad who did not share her name or her past with anyone.
BOOM.
The Torti initiation ceremony, the oath of aligance to Sebastian, the first choosen and therefore the leader of the Tortis.
BOOM.
The quick hand-to-hand combat training before a hurried departure.
BOOM.
Landing at Renigid to get her Ranthoran armour fitted and made for her, Sabastian and Jace's body armour.
BOOM.

Looking at the cities layout and discussing plans of action.

The endless days of flying on Jace's back and the blisters on her legs.
BOOM

Jace's wings flying on the air sounded like mini explosions. Countless mini explosions. BOOM another metre or two transvered over endless countryside.

That's it, that's Oherin in the distance. Jace chuckled, The time to have fun has finally came.

That got more of a reaction from him than anything else did. He leapt to his feet and simply stared at her.

Why?! he gasped at her. I tried to kill you!

Tried, but didn't succeed, she pointed out. And then I nearly fatally injured you in my defence, and had you locked here where they can reach you. It is I who owes you.

He continued to stare, then laughed drily.

The strangest claim of a lifedebt I've ever heard of, he muttered.

It can't be tonight!
Sabastian turned round to her and looked at her levelly, Why not?
Aira was unnerved, this was the first time he'd talked to her directly after he had escorted her to his father, shakily she said, Jace is bloody exhausted, he's been flying for days without adequete rest, he could be killed, he's not read to do battle.
Sabastian seemed annoyed and rolled his eyes, he turned back to the front as he said, We'll lose the element of suprise if we camp out here tonight, besides Jace can take it.

And that was that.

I mean it, Circh, she whispered intently. He laughed again.

I know you do. But you don't owe me anything, Namarien. There's nothing between us, no debt of any kind. Just go home.

She shook her head. She was about to deny that, but her arguement fell voiceless. Couldn't he sense it too?

Jace dropped Aira, Sabatain and Dryad off on top of the agreed hill that overlooked Oherin. Just before he took off again Aira ran up to them and said Jace, Rako. Good luck, be safe and if anything goes wrong just get yourselves out of there OK?
That's not the plan Aira and you know it. The good of the one outweighs the good of the many.
Aira flashed a horrified and angry look at Sabastian who was looked just as angry back at her.
Go.

Jace flew off with Rako on his back. He flew higher and higher until he could be mistaken for a bird then flew over Oherin and circuled, waiting for the signal.

It's time Dryad, destroy Oherin.
