It was awful, all the time I had wasted being away from here, hating the life I had escaped from, and somehow, I was back here, trapped again already. I kept telling myself I would go home on the next flight, but it was good, it was comforting. Watching the games again, ranting about how the shit the other teams, beer and the hot chicken wings. I felt like I had my family back - but I didn't. It didn't take a genius, let alone an ability to work out that Hanna was jealous of Jose's interest in me, and she seemed to be blaming me, like I was leading him on. And my mum only answered the calls when it suited her - saying that her daughter who was dating a politian was back home for a while sounded good, and it was all about appearance to her
So no, I didn't have my family back. But I had my brother.. And it was impossible - it hadn't even been two weeks since I had got here, but it was like we hadn't grown up hating each other. He talked me about his architecture things, I told him how boring it all was, I drank beer, and he drank soda, while we watched TV, we played stupid board games, we had lame inside jokes. It was almost like the childhood I had never spent with him.

Daphne continued to run, slowing only when she reached her family's cornfields. She could see the house from where she stood, but she still deviated away a little, going off to talk to Ray the scarecrow. She knew he didn't answer back or hear - she wasn't stupid - but it was still comforting. It reminded her of the time she'd made him and so saved her dad's crops that year.
