Yeah, they basically killed her off cause of the actress, and fans were asking to have her back for years. They were just waiting for a chance to do it with a different face since she won't let them use her image.

The reason they did that, though, was to try to make it possible for Piper's children to be future Charmed Ones too. As a kind of backup I guess. It wouldn't work if it was done globally.
