i didn't make the movie. I think it was just too easy to kill them 
and it wasn't their objective. They wanted to get the boy inside the building, and they used plastic guns instead of metal ones so magento couldnt control them, so she just shattered them. And also, i think it was just to weaken their chances of fighting back as the "better" powered people stayed back whislt the "crappy" powered people started to fight them and the x men.
