Doesn't Whedon seem to like using weird names? Honestly, I've never heard half of the Buffy names in any other context.

Honestly? Most of the main names are kinda weird Like I've never heard of Xander being chosen instead of Alex for a nickname for Alexander, I don't know/know of any other Willows, I'd never heard the name Anya before...

Honestly I even know a Spike - admittedly, self-chosen name after the character but still I guess I'd never heard of Xander instead of Alex for Alexander, but there was a Willow at my mum's nursery and there was a girl at school named Anya. Admittedly, never met/heard of a Cordelia.. But I think that's it..
