World 12: Spies - RP Thread

She dropped the children off, and proceeded onwards to the office building where she worked. Parking the car, she climbed out, locked it and headed for the entrance lobby. However, a woman approached her as she neared the doors.

Yes, can I help you? she asked, wondering who the stranger was and what she wanted.

Layla?

She frowned.

Layla? she repeated questioningly. I'm sorry, I don't know anyone with that name.... are you sure you have the right person? Maybe you've mistaken me for someone else...

The woman hesitated for a moment, looking at her closely. It was beginning to make her feel uncomfortable. But then she relaxed, and smiled.

Yes, that has to be it. I'm sorry...

Smiling apologetically again, she stepped away. Faye stood there, in confusion, for a while, before she shook herself, and told herself to forget it as she headed into the offices.

Where did you go? Keagan asked softly, glancing up as she entered the room.

You went to find her, didn't you?

She nodded slowly.

Yeah, I met Layla..... or I saw her, anyway.....

Why? Keagan countered. You know she wouldn't welcome it.

I saw her note just as you both did, she forced a smile. I know that. "I'm leaving, don't follow me". But things have changed now.... or they should have changed....

Sean's back, Drew nodded. How... how did she take it?

Brea hesitated.

She's not coming back, is she?

No.... she's wiped her memory.

At those words, Keagan took a sharp intake of breath, dismayed, but Drew just shook his head. He'd suspected, just as Brea had.

Poor Sean, Keagan muttered.

Why poor me?

You're talking about Layla, aren't you? he continued. Brea winced. Slowly she nodded, acknowledging her brother.

She fled about a day after you'd "died"... we didn't hear anything from her after that. Only a note saying she was going, and not to follow. But after you reappeared last week, I tried finding her again... I found her, at last. This morning. But she didn't recognise me, her name.....I'm sorry.....

Brea tailed off, watching his face expectantly, almost anxiously. She wasn't sure how he'd take the news. It'd been bad enough for her.

Layla... she's happy, isn't she?

I think so....

Then I'm happy for her.... he smiled, though all three could see there was no heart in it. If she's moved on, gotten away from this....

She raised her eyes to meet his, her mouth opening in a small stiffled gasp. Her voice was barely audible, but somehow he could still hear her anyway.

Sean?! she whispered.

How... how... just how? she gasped, unable to find more words. She didn't seem aware of the tears in her eyes.

How am I alive? he finished softly. She nodded. Turns out that a shot to the head can't kill me, after all - I don't know if anything can..... but it took me so long to heal. Hours. Almost a day, I think. And then you'd all left, and I didn't have any papers with me.... it's taken me this long to get back into the country. I've been here a week.

Neil pured himself a cup of coffe and soon he had drank it all. He wanted to be as alert as possible during his first day at work. He hadn't got much sleep during the night, thinking about all the worst case scenarios. Horrible co-workers, embarassing moments and screwed up missions were just a few of those scenarios. He pushed those thoughts away, drank the last of his coffee and straightening his tie, before heading out the door.

He sat down in his car, a pretty worthless one to be honest, but it worked, at least the majority of the time. He hoped it wouldn't let him down during this important day, and luckily it didn't. The car, relatively smoothly, left the driveway and Neil drove to work. He had memorized the adress and so he got there without any problems. The grand building he was faced with was somewhat a little scary when knowing that inside there, his first job awaitened. He calmed himself down and tried to ignore his growing nervosity as he got out of his car and entered the building.

Exiting the debriefing office, Tyler saw one of the new additions to his team waiting across the corridor.

Hey, New Guy! he called out. You ready?

Being caught a little off guard by the sudden appearance of one of his team members, who's name was something like Tyson or Ryler, at least on the file he had gotten weeks ago.

"Uh..yeah, of course." For what?" , Neil said while at the same time going up to his team member.

First mission, he answered. Sofie Jackson went missing last night, and we're supposed to find her.

"Oh, great." Neil said before he understood how that could sound. "I mean, not great that she is missing, but..." Neil stopped talking, noticing how much of his nervosity was shown by him chattering. "Neil Sparhawk.", Neil said professionally and offered his hand.

Tyler smirked, knowing what Neil meant. It was good to have a mission to work on even though it meant something had screwed up somewhere.

Tyler Cooper, he replied, taking Neil's hand and shaking it.

"Nice to meet you Tyler." Neil said smiling. "So, should we go?"
