it was the only possible solution for that universe, as kelli went through alternate universes to see that the world is in fine order. But in that particular universe where hira and soma had not met and didnt have a child together, she was able to see that the world could end. So she needed to find a way to get her pregnant in time so that the baby can help save the world

And why didn't Soma just meet her, ask her out and then get her "accidentally" pregnant asap?

it was too late by then and Hira (at that time in point) wouldn't of gone in any relationship.
