Who is it?! she asked, unable to help herself. She raced around the corner. It could have been just her own imagination, but that gasp had sounded like it contained a hint of hope. Could someone have possibly come with a solution for her humanity?

Turning around to face her, Lleucu's face was sorrowful as Erin's thoughts registered. She shook her head.

No.... he doesn't know how to help you.... but he thinks he can help Tannith and Tomas....

For a moment, Erin was disappointed. Then what Lleucu had said registered in her mind, and she pushed aside her own selfish thoughts. She raced off as quickly as she now could, calling out both Tannith and Tomas' names, searching for them while Lleucu waited with the stranger.

What is it? Tannith asked, climbing down the stairs after having heard Erin shouting.

Lleucu says that she's found someone who can help you and Tomas, he's at the door now.

Tannith then blurred past her as she raced towards the front door. She'd moved so quickly that the new vampire had only just followed Lleucu inside when she reached them.

For a moment, she worried, uncomfortable with the idea of their lives' tragedies become gossip for the worldwide vampiric community. But possibly such a thing was inevitable.

How can you help? she asked, pushing that issue aside.

I will need for him to be present, he answered. And then I believe that I can remove what has happened to him, from his mind.

Lleucu quickly volunteered to find her brother in law, and then sent out a telepathic message for him to join them in one of the official state rooms near the front entrance.

He followed Lleucu's instructions, curiosity the main thing in his thoughts. She hadn't explained much. As he entered, his eyes immediately landed upon Tannith, the strange vampiric Queen who claimed so much between them which he didn't remember. Within seconds he'd looked away. She confused him.

His eyes moved on to the other vampire, and he questioned who the man was. Another he'd somehow supposedly forgotten? He didn't think so. He had recognised everyone else, after all, and knew them - just not their connection to the woman named Tannith.

He's a newcomer, Tannith explained. He's here to heal your memory loss.

How? he asked, a little aggressively. After all, he wasn't sure if he wanted this healed. He wasn't sure if there was anything there to be healed.

It will be simple, the other man replied. He stepped forwards until Tomas was within his reach. Angrily, Tomas moved to step backwards, avoid him, but he moved too slowly. The vampire's cold grasp fixed around his head.

For a moment, Tomas was frozen, paralysed in his grip. Then he began to tremble. It was faint at first, barely visible even to vampiric eyes, but his movement grew, until his head was snapping around from side to side, but still trapped. And then he stopped. His eyes widened. Then they flickered closed, then blasted open again. Immediately his sight fell on Tannith.

I am so, so sorry.... he whispered.

She smiled, her eyes watering. She could tell immediately, just from the expression on his face, that whatever the strange vampire had done had worked. He recognised her. He remembered her. Quickly she turned away, blinking off those tears of joy before they fell, since she didn't want to appear weak now.

Thank you, she spoke instead, turning to face the other vampire. He bowed to her once again, then spoke his goodbyes. Lleucu offered to walk him to the door, in reality wanting to give her sister and brother in law some space.

Thank you, she echoed Tannith's earlier words, though hers had more emphasis. She'd heard the man's thoughts as he'd restored Tomas. She knew what he'd done. What he'd sacrificed.

The very thought of it shook her, to be honest. To lose everything, like that... to give it up.....

It was all I could do, he replied, his voice a barely audible whisper. There was a gap in him, now. A void. His mate had died, killed by Hunters a few decades ago, she had learned from his thoughts. And now he had sacrificed all memory of her to return Tomas' memory of Tannith in turn.

Lleucu shook her head. That level of loyalty.... she couldn't understand it. She could read his very mind, but she still couldn't comprehend. It'd be one thing sacrificing so for someone you knew, someone you loved.... but for a leader? A ruler? A person you looked up to and possibly admired, but had never previously met? Since she couldn't say anything, she remained silent, and the vampire soon made his exit.
