When Fia hesitantly entered the school grounds, she found they were busier than she remembered. Students were flocking around all over the place. She wondered briefly where they'd all come from, but told herself that she must have just forgotten what it was like here. She headed upstairs, to one of the Heads' offices. A few minutes of discussion and her request was agreed to. Then she drifted back downstairs.

She wandered around almost idly through the crowd. Briefly, she considered going to look for Perry, just out of habit. Then she remembered and told herself that she couldn't do that. She couldn't go talk to her brother either, because she knew Perry might be looking for her there. She kept on walking. She found herself passing the spot where she'd saved Perry before, recognisable to her even though the damage had been repaired by now, and she shuddered. She walked on.

After a few more minutes, she spotted a low brick wall and headed over to it, then sat down on it to think for a while. The place did seem busier than before, she thought again. It was milling with students. And she couldn't see a single face she'd passed before. She was beginning to become tempted to ask someone, when one of the students walked over and sat beside her.

The girl was a year or two younger than her, she guessed. She was almost fragile looking, pale and slim. At first, she was looking downwards, then she glanced at Fia, and Fia gasped.

A thrill ran through her, thinking of him, and she couldn't help smiling. Couldn't help remembering their kiss, and her joy through the bittersweetness as she saved him. She forced it all away, though. She couldn't afford to think of him.

Do you want help looking for him? she offered instead. Callie shrugged, then nodded. Fia leapt to her feet, landing lightly off the wall, and Callie followed her. She jumped a bit too strongly, making her nearly crash into Fia, if Fia hadn't hurriedly backed away.

It turned out that Callie had a good idea of where her brother would be, and they soon met Nate. Fia noticed, with a small shock, that he didn't have the same gleaming red eyes as his sister. His were a light blue which were almost tame in comparison. She asked if he wasn't Chosen too, before she could stop herself, but he only laughed. Then he explained that he was older, and his had already faded back to normality.

It wasn't long before Fia began feeling in the way. That was probably as a result of her enforced isolation, she knew, but she couldn't stop it. She then hurriedly said goodbye, and raced off.

Eventually she headed indoors. The room she'd been granted was a single one, not shared as was the norm here, on account for her power and its risk.

By the end of the next morning, she knew she'd been lucky not to encounter Perry that first day. She ran into him within a few hours. As his eyes landed on her, she could see them widen almost comically, so she knew he was shocked to see her here.

Again, he wondered why. Why the change of heart. He didn't bother asking though. They fell silent again. He began remembering the last time they were this close, just the two of them together, and wondered if she remembered that kiss as often as he did, before telling himself not to be so stupid. She hadn't really been interested. A kiss when one or the other had been dying didn't mean a thing.

Almost immediately after their return to the school, Sky threw herself into wedding planning with a frenzy. Within a few months she had a venue booked, vendors chosen and a dress bought. The date they'd selected was coming soon and the days were like they were flying past. Sometimes looking back at the time before her relationship with Nick, now, it felt like an unreal dream.
