Maybe he's into the habit of wearing them so much he can't go without them. Anyway, they're an integral part of his character.
Or maybe the eye damage was too old. I think regen blood just heals current injuries etc., not scar damage.

I think it just heals all damage.

That's what I meant: healing can (Angela's mind, young Angela's leg) but that doesn't mean regen blood would, as it's a different ability

It could be less potent out of the body, so it only heals fatal wounds
