    She shook her head frantically, a reflexive denial. She wasn't aware of the burning tears springing to her eyes, or the whisper of her lips. She voiced it without hearing herself.

    No.... no..... no.... no.... no..... no....

    It's true, Cate, he insisted, his voice breaking.

    No... she repeated. No... he...he can't be...

    He is. I saw him. I wouldn't have believed it otherwise.

    Did you...? she began asking, hesitantly, fearing the answer. She wasn't able to finish the question; voice the word "kill". She felt she'd only began breathing again when Daniel shook his head.

    It didn't come to that, thank God, he replied, both of them paling in turn as they realised that one day it might come to it.

    None of us did, Daniel nodded, hesitantly placing an arm around her shoulder. She sighed, stiffling a sob as she leant her head against his side. She closed her eyes wearily.

    Sam really didn't know what to do with herself. She was curled up in a ball on the drivers seat, the car parked at the side of the road. Her face was burried in her knees, tears streaming down her face. This had to stop. She'd stopped the car because she'd been attacked by a bout of tears ten minutes ago, and they refused to stop. She cried for the people she had lost, and mostly for Jeff. She sobbed quietly in the car, her sobs being the only sound for miles. Even the birds and the cows in the fields around her weren't making any noise.

    I just can't... she murmured unintelligibly, finding herself choking on her words. She shuddered, thinking of her poor children who'd have to grow up with a zombified father. That was even worse than him being completely dead, somehow.
