Soon after I'd left my dress fitting, I found that my cell had a message, and when I checked I found it was from the New Company, asking me to return to base immediately. I did so. Then, I found out that it was an urgent mission, and no one was free for it. I wouldn't have time to wait for Leo or any other partner.

I found that I actually had a spare few hours one Saturday, and I realised that as much as I hated breaking the schedule I had created, I missed Nathan so much more. I tried teleporting over to his, and accidentally scared his neighbour by appearing in the middle of his living room before I knocked on nathan's door

I agreed to take it, thinking that no matter how dangerous it'd be, I'd be fine. After all, I had my resistance, and failing that I had Peter and Jess. I'd be fine. I got the address and began driving there.

I smiled at Nathan, and greeted him normally. I just wanted everything to be normal.. I didn't want to be apologised to again, I didn't want condolences, I didn't want sorrys, or the concerned looks when people didn't think I was looking. I wanted my old life back

I got out of the car and walked up to the door, then knocked on it. Unusually, the target did answer, so there was no need for breaking it down. I wasn't fooled, however, I'd been told how dangerous he was. He'd come to our attention for killing people by tearing their breath from their lungs, 10 people in only one day. That's why it'd been so urgent.

I asked to come in, and as he predictably refused, I forced my way in. The unexpectedness of that got me in, but soon afterwards he attacked, trying to throw me back out. It soon turned into a fight. I was matching every blow, but even with my resistance, he was the one who barely seemed to be getting hurt.

With every kick and punch I grew more certain of that, until one drew blood and I noticed it wasn't healing. It was only the pain he wasn't feeling. But the fight was distracting him enough not to be able to use his breath theft, so I continued on. I was thinking that since I resisted and he didn't heal, I'd eventually have the beating of him.

Again and again I punched at him, feeling blood coating my hand as my fists connected. He was thrown against the wall, and dove and dodged out of the way. A part of me hated having to beat him this way, but it was neccessary. A second's hesitation and he wouldn't hesitate to attack himself. But he was slowly tiring, I could see it. It looked like I'd nearly beaten him.

Thinking that, I paused for a moment, seeing him too fatigued to fight back. The half-hearted attempt he made to steal my breath was easily resisted. I really did think I had him beaten.

That was a mistake, however, as I found out moments later. He reached out an arm weakly, and I thought he was attempting the breath theft again. However, his hand began glowing bluely, and I felt myself weakening, rapidly. Soon I'd fallen to my knees, and then to the ground. This time I was really struggling for air, but it was more than that, I was struggling for energy, too, struggling for life itself.
