I tried to force a smile at Emma's condolence, but I'm sure it was obvious that it wasn't real. I knew that she meant well. But it didn't do a thing. Nothing did.

I should get back t-to Darrien. Lowri, I'm so sorry, she said again before creating her own portal away. She wanted to go home, to curl up in bed and pretend that nothing had ever happened, but she knew she had to see Peter.

I nodded, saying goodbye as she portalled away. The second she left, I felt I could let myself break down. I just crumpled into a seat, alone, letting the tears pour down my face. This never got easier. It never got less real. It never felt like there'd surely be a way out, another way to regain them. And Nathan.... we'd never lost him, not this Nathan.

I'm sorry, he whispered again, not knowing what else to do. After a minute, he left. He was shaking his head as he exited, wishing that there was something that he could do. But he already knew that Commanding Nathan back would be too much for him.

Darrien was walking slowly as he headed back home, lost in his thoughts. The entire day just felt surreal. A part of him just wished he could wake up tomorrow and find the idea of Nathan being dead a nightmare, but another part already knew he wouldn't, and was grieving the very concept of that. There wouldn't be waking from this.

Dani had tried staying there after Darrien had left, but it wasn't long before she found that she could no longer face the apartment. She went and woke Lewis and Elena, telling them that they were going to go visit their gran, then teleported the family to Daphne's home. Her mother tried asking what had happened, seeing her face, but she ignored the questions. She couldn't explain or confirm it. Saying it - even saying his name - would make it real.

After Emma found out Peter already knew, she made a portal home almost straight away. It hurt her too much more to see people mourn someone who had been lost for her. She took to stroking her stomach to remind her that it hadn't been just her Nathan had saved - that he had saved their child. Something she could never not be thankful for.
