Finally, her throat turned sore and she knew she couldn't cry anymore. With red-rimmed eyes and puffy cheeks, she created herself a portal, having to summon all of her courage to step through. When she did, she arrived home to her husband. Unable to even speak, she just moved towards him. Could she do this to him? Could she really tell him that his brother was dead and it was all her fault?

She felt even more tears falling from her eyes as she tried to find words to describe it. It's Nathan.. He tried to save me, but he didn't make it, uttered Emma, before it became too much and she began sobbing again. She pulled her husband into an embrace.

What? was all he could say, in a choked gasp. He couldn't comprehend it. Nathan.... his brother hadn't made it? But his brother always made it..... he shook his head, unable to accept what she'd said, even as he pulled Emma closer to him.

Emma opened a portal for herself, and as she walked through the swirly mess, she made one for Darrien, as well. Dani deserved to know.

Seeing the portal she'd opened, Darrien had to take in some deep breaths before he forced himself to move through. He was dreading this conversation. But he understood Emma's unspoken point too - Dani did need to know. Ignorance couldn't protect her.
As he re-emerged, he saw Dani crouched down in a corner, her face torn.
Dani, he began, trying to be gentle. I'm sorry... Nathan's....

When Emma arrived, she realised quite how unprepared she was for this. A few deep breathes didn't help at all, but she pretended they did as she knocked on the Petrellis' front door.

She knew it couldn't wait but she held her breathe slightly, to hold back tears. Okay.. Lowri, I'm so so sorry, but Nathan was trying to.. save me and he got killed. The words varied from flowing far too slowly to too quickly.

He's.... he's dead? I echoed, unable to believe it. Even after all of these years, all of our experiences, the shock of first learning was always like this. And we'd never lost Nathan before, it'd never happened.
