It was decided that it'd be impossible for Drew to do as he'd offered, and also that currently it'd be deemed too much of a risk. Because of that, he didn't mention the possible contact he received the next week. He wasn't sure himself if it was real, or a trap, either. He just kept silent.

The days passed, and soon the small group was too buried in their daily work and missions to think much of the larger enemy facing them. Currently, Layla was lying awake in the middle of the night, having recently returned from one such mission. She'd lied it away as yet another late-running business meeting. For now, those excuses were passing. And she was using them for another reason too .... but again, she wasn't going to let herself regret her decision, or the duplication it required. That was just how her life had fallen. It wasn't why she was still awake now. Still, her wakefulness made it possible for her to hear the subtle creaking sounds in another part of the house, too late for it to be any of her children though she knew it was coming from the direction of their rooms. She slid out of bed and went to investigate.

Cloaked in silence and darkness, she made her way to their bedrooms, and almost immediately she could see the outline of a person who wasn't meant to be there - too tall to be anything but an adult, and Trey was fast asleep - silhouetted near the window. She tensed. Automatically her hand moved for a weapon, and she swore under her breath as she realised there was none to be had. Still, she could fight bare-handed, with her fists and her abilities... she'd have to.

Within a second of entering the room, her fist had collided with the man's ribs, and she felt him being thrown backwards. She didn't give him a moment to recover. She darted forwards, throwing another punch, kicking out. He was fighting back too, showing clear training and experience. It didn't give her any time or chance to worry about her children seeing this, wondering where she'd possibly learned to fight so.

Her foot connected again, and this time, she felt the crunch of breaking bone. A rush of satisfaction ran through her at the sound. The man had broken into her home and threatened her family - he deserved it. He deserved it and more.
What are you doing here? she demanded. The man remained silent. Swearing under her breath, she wished briefly to be able to force people to answer her, before returning to her attack.

With every punch, she could feel her opponent weakening, his attempts to parry her becoming more and more pathetic. She kept demanding the same question, but he kept refusing to answer. Eventually, her frustration broke through in a small explosion. She noticed the panic in his eyes as he watched that.
Answer me or you'll go the same way, she threatened. He shook his head frantically, but at the next supernova blast he began babbling an explanation.
My group sent me.... we noticed you were the only one in Fallon with a family... weak link....

A chill ran through her at those words, at that threat, and then she saw red. Her grip tightened on the man's wrist until it was painful. Her ability had activated before she'd had a chance to think of her snap decision, any chance to regret it. Within seconds, the man was dead.

She felt it, the second he died, and shortly afterwards she dropped his arm in distaste. She turned around. Only then did she notice her eldest daughter staring at her, wide-eyed.
How did you do that? she gasped. Her voice was barely more than a whisper.
I.... Layla was frozen now. She'd never imagined any of her children faced with this, learning any of this.... the unnatural abilities, her history, her life as a spy....
How did you do it? You just touched him, and he dropped...
It's a power, she began uncertainly, but Kimberley interrupted her.
Are they hereditary?
Layla shrugged. She'd never really considered that, never wondered if her parents had possessed their own, or if children would inherit, even when she was with Sean and the potential for inheritance had been from both sides. She'd never thought of it. But then, all 3 of the Fallon siblings shared powers, which did suggest it.
I suppose they could be....
Kimberley's eyes, wide and stark throughout the conversation, widened further at that. Her expression seemed half afraid and half awed. Silently, she moved her hand from behind her back. All Layla could do was stare. A glowing flame filled her entire palm.

Laura smiled back. "I'm not, but if you are then we could go together." she teased back, a little stiff, trying to adjust to the new group atmosphere. She had been used to strict tactical groups and now she had to not only follow orders or giving them, she had to fit in with a group of other individuals socially as well.

"Okay." she agreed. George nodded in agreement. Laura went back to her car and George followed her. Then she drove along all the streets and tried to navigate as best as she could. After a couple of wrong turns, she eventually found the right address and stepped out of the car. The house where the mother and stepfather lived was big, almost mansion-like but not as extreme. It was however, pretty plain, almost only white and grey. At least on the outside. Laura quickly walked with her back straight and eyes looking forward as sharp as an eagle. Time to investigate, she thought

Tyler headed to his own car, and sped as usual to the apartment block where the father had been living since the divorce. Ringing the relevant bell, he found that the man's voice was sharp and harsh until he'd identified himself. Then he buzzed him in.

The door was opened and standing there was a tall man with blonde hair and charming smile. He had a typical "salesman" look, like he was about to try and sell her something. She swiftly took her badge and let it drop to show that she was FBI while identifying herself as the agent she was. His smile twitiched slightly at that but he quickly adjusted the smile, hoping that she wouldn't have noticed. But she did. He knew something and she wanted to know what.
"May I come in?" she asked, George just standing behind her, being a support if needed.

The man was angry about being questioned, which became more and more apparent with each question. Tyler noted that, but also told himself that this could be indignation at the idea of being accused, only. Every answer seemed perfect, anyway.

Laura and George entered and was offered tea by a woman, probably the girl's mother who looked like she hadn't slept, but the man seemed like he wasn't worried at all. But all Lauras questions got an perfect answer. Almost too perfect answers.

Tyler's thoughts were moving in the same direction as Laura's, thinking that the answers were too perfect, as if rehearsed. The man did have an alibi, but that didn't prevent him from having ordered someone else to grab her, and he had plenty of contacts to have done so.

Laura continued questioning him but couldn't find a way to get into his shining impenetrable armour of alibi. She realized she had to consult with the rest of the group on a plan to take him down. Because it had to be him, she could feel it. So she started rounding it up and ended with a "we will be in touch" speech before leaving. She tried calling Tyler when in a safe distance from the house.

Hearing his cell ring, Tyler excused himself and went into the hallway to answer it. He walked a short distance away to make sure the man wouldn't be able to eavesdrop either.

"Hey. It's Laura. The stepfather seems to have too perfect anwers and an alibi to protect him. What should we do...?" she answered, feeling slightly powerless when the responsible guy was untouchable.

It's a similar case here. Maybe they're both working together.... even with alibis they could have hired someone, he reminded her. Even with the security the girl had, it could have been possible, especially if the culprit had told the kidnappers how to bypass it.

"That's true." she said, mainly to herself. "Should we put someone to follow both of them and hope they slip up?" she asked, not seeing a better solution to find ojut the truth. If they were working together then they had to have planned so that they would become untouchable and maybe that overconfidence could be their Akilles heel.
