Yeah. Forget scorned, hell hath no fury like a woman who's just found out you played a part in the death of the man she now knows she loved

Chapter 9
Fiorr Manor, Eastside, 2470
Anya hesitated at the doorway. This felt so surreal for her, truly almost another world, and she didn't belong here. Only real concern for Rún's welfare could have drawn her here. She'd sensed something in the woman's tone earlier which was worrying her, boring away at the back of her mind. Some vague premonition that she would do something extreme.
And this then had weighed on her conscience, nagging at her, wearing her down, until she'd snapped, taking the dangerous hidden route across the frontier to Eastside, and leading her to where she was standing now. Looking up at the mansion with almost awed eyes, unable to believe that people could live like this. She crept forwards, knowing all too well that she'd be arrested if spotted, on the assumption that she could only be here to rob the place. Usually the right assumption, she thought, smirking. But not today. Glancing around one last time to ensure there were no witnesses, she slid to the front entrance and picked open the locks, letting herself in.
There was an eerie oppressive silence inside; forcing her to call out even though she knew it was inadvisable.
" Rún? Rún!"
No answer. Just the choking silence. She stepped in deeper into the house, glancing into the rooms she passed. They were so ornate that it almost frightened her.
" Rún?!"
She moved on, passing room after room. Soon, she arrived at a dark, richly panelled room - some sort of office. The door was slightly ajar. The pungent, overwhelming aroma of blood was spilling from it.
Some strange premonition warned her as she pushed the door open and stepped into the office, so she was not that shocked at the sight she beheld. Her eyes ran over the corpse of the man lying there, all too familiar with death. She noted the ragged bullet holes in his chest, enough for an entire clip, and then the pistol lying fallen on the ground near the doorway. Kneeling, she picked it up with numb hands. The model, she'd realised at once, was one far too familiar to her, and she knew immediately whose it must have been. What must have occurred here.
" Rún," she whispered, shaking her head. She'd suspected.....but she'd never known for certain. Of course, it'd been common knowledge that those 2 had been close friends nearly 2 decades ago when he was her mentor. Also common knowledge that the attraction between them would have made them more than friends if it had been possible. Anya had known too, that they had reunited a few years after Rún had married. As she'd said to the woman earlier, she'd known they were close. She hadn't thought this close.
Her thoughts were disturbed by a plaintive voice, calling out from above.
"Father? Mother? Who is there?"
Anya could hear light footsteps on the stairs and them approaching. Rún's son? She stepped out, blocking the doorway, wanting to protect the child she saw from the truth which lay within.
At first, his surroundings and apparel deceived her. In so rich a disguise, she wouldn't have expected to recognise anything from her world. Therefore, only that earlier need to protect, and a slight realisation of how the circumstances would appear, kept her where she was blocking his entrance.
"Who are you?" he asked, eyes widening as they landed upon her. She hesitated, unwilling to answer. He asked again.
"A....friend of your mother's," she replied at last, choosing to give half of the truth.
"Then how have I never seen you before?" Though obviously frightened, he still forced himself to step forwards, to confront her. "You don't look like any of our family's associates..."
Neither do you, she thought, realisation seeping through. As he'd stepped forwards, the light had struck his face, illuminating for her features far too familiar to ignore. That was no Eastsider, she thought. No full Eastsider.
"You're not....?"
