HomeGracie was disappointed but not surprised by the attitude of her school friends. The second she stopped doing what they considered "cool" they dropped her like a hot potato and she returned to her previous social status - neither popular nor unpopular. Simply forgotten. She continued getting her A* grades, counting down the days until she could finally leave the place for good. She had applied - and already been accepted into both Brown and Cornell University. Although the idea of leaving her home and her real friends behind, she knew she would be going - only four more months in this town and she'd be out.

When she was chosen as the "Everyman", she toyed with what to write in her speech - her school offered an alternative to the Valedictorian who also said a speech, but was meant to be a lot more normal. Gracie played with the idea of giving an accurate representation of what her school days had been, and another idea about just how stupid social situations at her school were and finally a third were she simply wrote what they had to say.

Her final exams came and went without much stress - she knew she had passed them without any doubt. The only issue was whether she got full marks or lost a couple. The last week of school was built of the seniors pulling pranks and goofing off - Gracie did very little, simply counting down the days until it was over. And all too soon, it was. One day, she was sitting the back of Physics praying Mr Harper did ask her a question and then she was reluctantly handing out graduation tickets to the Pizzeria staff and her parents.

When the day came, Gracie couldn't decide if she was happy or sad or nervous. She was sure she was glad it over - but even still, it was like there was some mist over her eyes that convinced her years of high school had been perfect. This was the last time she would ever see these people - and no matter how she felt about them, they had been a part of her everyday life. She tried not to focus on the change too much as she arrived at school in her graduation robes. She took her seat next to the Valedictorian in the front row, knowing that behind her sat at least 10 people who had come just to see her.

There was a big round of applause as each name was called and one by one the people walked forwards. Afterwards, the headmaster gave a speech, saying what a wonderful year it had been. Gracie began fiddling with the pieces of paper in front of her as the Valedictorian was called up. His speech was brief and optimistic - what a wonderful year it's been, how exciting their lives are going to be and then a lot of lines she was pretty sure he had taken from Journey lyrics.
And finally, a speech from our Everyman - or should I say woman? - Grace Bradley, introduced the headmaster and there was a smattering of applause as she stepped up onto the stage. The second she stared out at the audience watching her, every single word she had planned went out of her mind, too caught up in the moment. After a loud cough from Boston in the back row, she reasserted herself enough to begin.
Hi, my name's Grace Bradley, she began, her voice tentative and her nerves evident. When no one began laughing, she took breathe to continue. However, no words came. She fumbled with the sheets of paper trying to find something to say. That's probably a surprise to all you, as I'm pretty sure only 5% of this graduating year could pick me out of a line-up. The crowd stirred, surprised by how sharp her voice had turned. I think the most interesting thing about high school isn't the actual lessons you get taught but the ones you learn - for example, stupid teenagers will only think you're cool if you do stupid things. Or that the best way to get an invite to a party is to sleep with someone memorable. I know a lot of people went for this year's football team - congrats to them - but I personally chose my physics teacher, Mr Matthew Harper everybody!
Sitted in the front row, Matthew immediately turned beetroot red and wished he could simply disappear. Unfortunately, he didn't have that power, meaning he just had to sit there as people turned to stare at him. Gracie found herself staring at him as well - only there was a difference. This time, he was staring back. For what seemed like an eternal second, their eyes were locked and then suddenly, it was over. Gracie slunk away from the microphone as what she had just said really began to dawn on her. She managed to get off stage before she almost completely broke down.

By the time she was off the stage, she was hyperventilating. She was still gasping for air when Boston appeared, apparently the first to come looking for her. What - is - wrong - with me? she asked, her words separated as she tried to realise what she had done.

Gracie buried her head in her hands, wondering if she could find some way to go back in time and punch herself in the face.. Why?! What is wrong with me? Why couldn't I just say some cheesy song lyrics? she insisted, her words mumbled by her hands.

Boston rolled his eyes at the lame comment. George held his hand out to Gracie and when she took it, he pulled her to her feet. Forget the speech. Who cares? It's over now. You never have to come back here again.
But neither can he.. He'll never get a job with this on his record, she grumbled, allowing herself to be pulled along by George anyway.

Gracie's guilt hadn't faded by the next morning despite the promises that it would - she simply could not get the expression on his face out of her head. Unreadable.. A mixture of emotions or maybe none? She realised now how little she knew about him. Within a few seconds of looking at Boston, she could tell what he was thinking, almost like telepathy - but Matthew? It was a mystery. As the next few days passed, Grace continued to torture herself with guilty thoughts on how she had ruined his career and his life and how it was all her stupid fault. Her mood worsened when she was informed for definite that he was fired.
Awkward conversations with her parents, step-parents and teachers ensued - she knew she couldn't deny it now, although she did try to at the start. By the end of the interview, she was informed that Matthew had been fired almost immediately, but that there would be no law suit.. Matthew had said he was uncertain of her age and Gracie swore on her life she had been eighteen when their "relationship" began.

Pippy finished her shift at work and walked home. She knew Boston was out - he had offered a vague explanation of "drinking". Guessing he would not to be home for at least a few hours - it was only eleven, Pippy checked to see if Grace was home, forgetting that Gracie had "officially" moved out since her parents had been led to the conclusion that living with an adult couple was part of what inspired her actions.
Unable to come up with other plans, Pippy lounged around the apartment. She played around with the idea of food, before making the sensible and adult decision to snack on Oreos and play Call of Duty.

The evening was slow and when she heard the knocking on the door, Pippy assumed Boston had lost his keys again - or Grace had had another big fight with her parents. However, when she swung the door open, the person she saw waiting for her was definitely not what she expected
