When I was young, I had an issue. I can still drink, but I don't drink in the day, anymore, he answered, berudgingly. She smiled at that, despite the topic.

He put his hand into his pocket, frowned then went to search in one of the bags they'd brought with them. Eventually he pulled out a pack of cards.

You know Mom's got into some fortune-telling stuff recently? Well, she's been trying to read cards, and I tried it, and.... well, it came true. A couple of times. Like this... he pulled out one card, a Queen of Spades.

What does that mean? James asked, wondering if his immediate suspicion would be correct. Could it be.... her? But he'd never even met her, not really. Not in the time which had truly existed.

His son's answer broke across his musings, and he shook his head.

Some woman, I can't say anymore since I don't know her. But she's dark, possibly dangerous.... troubled. And I think you know her.

Intrigued by the smile on his father's face, Adam was about to ask what he meant by that, when he was interrupted by the doorbell ringing. Getting to his feet, James went to answer it. However, he barely recognised the woman standing there. She seemed nothing like the one he'd known before, the confusion on her face completely lacking her usual confidence, her air one of being completely lost.

Keira?!

She started at that name, grey eyes flying wide. Slowly she smiled.

I've never gone by that name before.... but I recognise it. I'd said that my old self was dead, didn't I? I... I don't know if she's alive or not, now

Insisting on whispering the location in the cab drivers' ear, instead of letting George know, they sat next to each other, in the back

I think she is, he replied, inviting her in. He was struggling not to ask what'd happened to her - or rather, what hadn't. She was so different from how he'd known her, and he wondered what could have possibly caused that change in the other future. Could it have been just what they'd lived through? But they'd all experienced that..... remembering how much she'd valued her privacy then, he pushed the issue out of his mind, and offered her a drink.

She simply shrugged, uncomfortable with the answer, refusing to give it. In truth, she was still adapting to these new abilities - the sudden visions she'd get, the way she seemed to suddenly be untouchable. It frightened her in a way, much as she also loved it.

I just don't know who I am anymore, she continued. I don't know if I can go back to who I used to be. She.... she'd never do what I now remember doing. Does that make any sense?

He nodded.

I think we're all facing that, to some extent. But.... well, I don't know if I know you well enough to have a say..... but I don't think the person you were when I knew you was anyone to be ashamed of.

You think I should go back to being Keira? she asked, her tone uncertain.

Maybe not that far. But why can't you be her while still being Eve Kings?
