The battle raged on for hours, it felt like. They teleported all through the building, destroying section after section, chipping their way through the agents, but they never seemed to end. Soon, they were cornered once again.

For about a millionth time they tensed, backs to the wall and preparing to fight yet again. The first arc of lightning streaked through the air. The first agent was thrown telekinetically back. Fire and electricity and bullets streamed in retaliation, most missing, the few which neared Eve just freezing at her skin. She was trying to persuade the men to aim at each other, but the battle was so noisy that few could hear her and obey.

(Why does a fight immediately have you suspecting the worst?)
Elan fought on, her surroundings narrowing to her while she focused only on her next target, the next assailant she'd send spinning away. However, she still froze for a second, when she felt James - who'd been at her side - vanishing. He couldn't have deserted them.... there'd been nothing of it in his thoughts, and it was so unlike him..... she sighed in relief when he reappeared on the other side of the attackers, and she realised he'd simply teleported there. She turned her attention back to her own fight, turning to blast away an agent she'd heard planning to try to sneak up upon her. Useless against a telepath, of course.

He was so used to having it there, even after they had broken up, even after they had made it through their rocky patch after their break up.. even after the few relapses, he had always kept it, because he had always kept faith in them. When he got home, he moved straight for the fridge, removing as many beers as he could, before dropping down in front of the TV. He flicked through the channels, knowing he didn't give a shit what he was watching. The second he had decided on a programme - the Judge reruns - he opened the first beer, and started chugging

She turned to the next, telekinetically throwing him away too - only to find herself being thrown back, instead. Her head was spinning as she hit the floor, and she took time to realise the guy must have been able to reflect the attack away. Seconds before she started to regain herself and move away from David, next to whom she'd landed, there was a surge of energy and then everything vanished.

She stood there, staring at the spot where he'd vanished. Where he'd teleported out from. Because that was what he'd done, what she'd just seen - there was no other way to vanish that quickly. But how? Numbly she ran his abilities through her mind, as she'd identified them previously - that reality manipulating one (which he'd discounted himself), photokinesis, the emotion one and the influence one. None of which could teleport. None of which could gain a new ability, either. What had happened?!

Yes, how could he possibly have ever vanished like that? She didn't have a clue of an answer. All she could do was wait for him to reappear, if he would. And then she'd ask. Then she'd try to get that answer.
