Is there anything? Nathan asked, watching us both as we searched, and feeling slightly useless that he couldn't do much himself. He'd searched the written records, but there was nothing in print on them. As expected really.

I continued to search urgently, conscious of the lack of time - the sirenlike alarms were still sounding, making it a bit hard to forget. I was tempted to skip things, but forced myself not, certain that anything I'd leave out would contain the history we all needed. Life just worked that way.

(And touching the necklace wouldn't give anything more than what Teagan got from the crate's walls)
Still we continued to search, finding nothing, but unable to just leave and give up. There had to be something here, it was the last option!! The alarms were getting louder and louder, and dimly I registered that I could hear voices and rapid footsteps racing our way, but I was pushing the knowledge to the back of my mind. Nathan, however, wasn't doing the same. I could see him in the corner of my eyes, anxiously watching the clock, his eyes darting from that to the doorway. I didn't need any mind-reading to know how desperately he wanted to urge us to leave.
Still we continued to search, finding nothing, but unable to just leave and give up. There had to be something here, it was the last option!! The alarms were getting louder and louder, and dimly I registered that I could hear voices and rapid footsteps racing our way, but I was pushing the knowledge to the back of my mind. Nathan, however, wasn't doing the same. I could see him in the corner of my eyes, anxiously watching the clock, his eyes darting from that to the doorway. I didn't need any mind-reading to know how desperately he wanted to urge us to leave.

We should get going, I admitted at last, glancing again to the doorway. I'd given myself enhanced hearing before, and using that I could tell that the nearest guards were only a corner away. Time to be gone.

I nodded.
They're coming.
I made my way to the door, only to freeze, finding that they were closer than I'd anticipated. I tensed, exchanging the hearing for a cheetah's speed. Reflexively I grabbed for the other 2 as I bulleted away.

We raced past just in time, blurring through the first row of agents. I continued to run, without paying much attention in which direction I was going, just focused on losing any pursuit. I couldn't hear any following closely. But those sirens were now echoing through my mind, stopping any chance of relaxing. What was going on here? And why did it have to be today? I felt that the alarm this was causing was possibly preventing any chance of our purpose.

I barely paid any attention to the people we passed, too intent upon fleeing. Slowly, I began realising that Peter was slowing somewhat, and I faltered.
What is it? I asked, but he only shook his head. I began running again, and this time I didn't slow til we'd escaped the building, and were back in the apartment.

It was like I was a little boy again. I was scared for mself and not even thinking about my family. Tracy and Elle. What sort of man was I? I was not the one my parents wanted to be, as they gave me. I tried to focus, to help get out of this situation but already I could hear them approaching. Now, I was in what seemed to be the cleaner's room and I needed to leave, to fight against them and fight for myself and my family.

Hearing the alarms suddenly sounding, Elan froze. Her eyes darted round the room the 4 of them were in, and she debated to herself what action to take. She was torn between staying to fight, and running out - or better, asking James to teleport them out. The second option was the most sane one, certainly. But weren't they there to fight? To destroy this Company? Whatever the cost?

Shock, mostly, Peter answered. I was finding his expression completely impossible to read. But I didn't ask shock over what.

I... I found I could remember. I remember everything.

She decided then to stay, to fight. She tensed her hand, a sphere of blue electricity flickering within. The second the first agent stuck his head through the doorway, she released it in a blazing glorious arc, feeling a thrill run through it as it soared towards him and struck. Then the battle began in earnest. She was throwing electricity in all directions, holding the doorway. She'd sensed James trying to stop time, but another was blocking that. Elan held the door, throwing their enemies backwards, cracking them against the walls. That thrill running through her deepened, reminding her of her years in the Resistance. She'd missed it.

Behind her, she could hear David whispering urgently using every breath he had. Not speaking, using his ability. Altering the world for their purposes. She could already see the effects, her own attacks more accurate than ever before, the enemies' counters always seeming to skim over their heads. They were falling steadily. But more and more were pouring in.

Tara didn't show up for work the next day, and she was refusing all phone calls. From anyone - her family, her friends, and especially Sean. She knew.. she knew she would have to tell him, but the biggest fact she was hiding from was that she.. felt bad for it, she felt bad for hurting him.. but she wouldn't call it guilt

They continued to fight, still trapped inside the small office room, the agents gradually gaining ground. Elan fought hard, but was forced back from the doorway. Grabbing hold of the other 3, she telepathically asked James to teleport them away. They vanished in a flash, leaving a bullet skimming through the space where her head had been seconds before. They arrived in another part of the building, having obviously not intended to flee. Just getting new ground.
