How would it be too complicated?

No It wouldn't as long as it's a certain species. It can't do any more then that species can do

Why don't we have a topic explaining what each creature is? Then people can have a read of it before they make it?

Like I said before, explain it in the profile. And the characters would most likely explain it to others when they meet them. Just use common sense, don't make them too powerful, ignore bits of their abilities which would make them so.

For each of the original forms, could some of them have sub-forms with their powers based on elements? That would give people more of a choice.
