I sat on the bench, smiling. Sipping my cup of tea, an holding my hand was Tracy. It seemed ages since we been out together, as a couple. She had her little had on and scarf wrapped around her tightly like a snake killing its prey. If i touched it she would slap my hand, so i let her choke herself.

Maybe it does.... she went silent, thinking back, remembering. She was certain by now that she'd mimicked pyrokinesis from her granddaughter, as opposed to manifesting it independantly. That'd be too much of a coincidence, occuring twice. But then, she hadn't mimicked any of Elan's, or Dann's, or Danny's. What was the difference? Also, Rhi must have had some form of healing, or ability manipulation, to have returned this. And she hadn't mimicked that either.

Yes, what was the difference? She forced her mind back, trying to remember more, every detail. She'd been holding Rhi before then, she'd been holding her as she tried to copy it. Would that have altered something? She hadn't been in contact with the other 3 when she tried theirs. But how hadn't she got whatever ability healed her, too?

She hadn't known about that ability though, not really. Not concretely. She'd obviously suspected there was something....but, she remembered, she hadn't been rationalising it enough to have attempted to copy it when holding the child. Was that it? A conscious decision, like before, and contact too?

Keira paced in the small apartment which was their hiding place for this week, fretting. She was anxious about the attack. Sure, she knew now that her ability, augmented, could block Samuel. She'd been practicing it whenever Lily was free. But she still was anxious. She just didn't like waiting.

How long was this going to go on, he wondered. Would these walls be there forever? Was this as far as their relationship could develop? Lovers of convenience, nothing more. Pretending not to feel anything for the other on an emotional level.
He didn't understand, really, why she continued to do this. He didn't want to. After all, it wasn't like they could return to their previous lives, to the people they'd once been and to any partners they'd had in the past. That had been lost the second they manifested. Keira had even changed her name, claiming that the woman she'd once been was now dead. And he was "James Martin" to the world.
