Keitaro listened, his shock growing with every word. His inability to heal her had made him think it'd been some ability blocking him, so what was going on? He couldn't even begin to understand it. But he understood, really, that trying to question it like this was just hiding, and nothing compared to the real and full truth. Rooreru was dead. His sister was gone, really gone, and she wasn't coming back.

As soon as he'd thought that, it hit him, so strongly that he was almost shaking. She was really gone...... she was really, truly gone. He'd never see her again. He'd have to go back and tell his parents that they'd lost their only daughter. Someone would have to tell his nephew, no more than a year old, that he'd never see his mother again.

I think Eoin'll be bringing her back, soon, he concluded sorrowfully, shaking his head. Both of them still looked in shock. A part of him felt unfairly jealous of them, for that. It hadn't fully struck them yet, but it had struck him.

Back on the island, Eoin was still sitting desolately by his wife's body, cradling her still form. He'd barely moved since Keitaro had left. The tears were silently pouring down his face, showing the outraged anguish which words couldn't voice, as he mentally replayed her death over and over.
"She's another of you freaks, isn't she"....... "She'd have to be, to be with you"
Again he'd see the expression on the man's face, the sheer hate, the sadistic smile as he realised a way to hurt him which would pain much more than killing him directly.

Gently he'd cradle her in his arms, whispering words she'd never hear. Never again. He'd closed her eyes, unable to bear her unseeing gaze on him any more. It seemed reproachful. She seemed to be imploring at him, asking why hadn't he saved her. Hadn't he wanted it enough? Hadn't his entire being been screaming for it?

It was the next day before he finally let her go, making arrangements to return home while her body would be flown back to Japan. He couldn't go there, not yet. He wouldn't be able to face her family again, admit how he'd failed them and failed her. He particularly couldn't face Aito again.
