World 1 - Redemption And Revenge

As he regained consciousness, the pain came first. His head felt like his skull was shrinking and compressing his brain and he began to be aware he had another hangover. Next came the awareness of pain in the side of his neck where something was jabbing into it. Lastly came an odd feeling that he realised was motion sickness. He gave a low moan and pushed his body away from the object that was jabbing into his neck and promptly hit his head on a wall. With a grunt he massaged his bruised neck and head. The air was clammily cold and smelled of urine. Blearily opening his eyes, he saw he was inside a small toilet room with drab white walls. He'd fallen asleep against the toilet handle.

He got to his feet and stretched away the pains as best as he could. Next he went to quench his thirst, trying to drink from the tap by getting his head awkwardly angled into the small wash basin. It would have to do. Wiping away the water down the side of his face, he turned to see he'd managed to lock the door whilst drunk. He was impressed. Unlocking it, he discovered a corridor leading to another. He could hear the noise of people ahead, above and below him. He checked he was dressed and straightened his clothes out so he didn't look so rough before continuing.

A few moments later, he walked out through an open door further on and came upon the dull grey mass of an ocean and a bleak sky. He stumbled to the railing and looked around. A ferry? How had he gotten onto a ferry and where was he going?

Eoin and I have something to announce, she began. She paused then, waited til everyone had fallen silent and turned to watch them expectantly. She smiled slightly. What we have to tell you is.... we're gonna have another child.

Dexter steadied himself against the railing and rifled through his own pockets with his spare hand, checking for valuables and looking for clues. Everything was empty. Well... damn. A voice drew his attention.

"Excuse me sir. Excuse me! Are you alright?"

A member of the crew was approaching him. All Dexter could think of was expletives.

(I'm going to get Dexter off the boat soon. Where are your characters? I might get him dropped off at the nearest port.)

Dexter couldn't hide his guilty, slightly panicked expression. He thought quickly.

"No... My wife just found out I cheated on her. I'm as good as dead." he told the crew member.

"Oh, I feel for you. I've been there. Good luck pal." the crew member told him, looking sympathetic. He gave a nod and left. Once he was out of sight, Dexter gave a sigh of relief. Now he had to find out where he was going and get back home.

Dexter thought he'd better stay where he was for the remainder of the journey. A hangover and motion sickness was not a good mix. He wondered vaguely if in his drunken state he'd done anything he shouldn't have. He wasn't injured so he knew he hadn't brawled but he could've embarassed himself onboard. Maybe someone was looking for him? If they were, they didn't find him before he spotted a familiar horizon approaching in the west.

New York? What on earth was he doing in New York? Why had he been out on the Atlantic? The wondering made Dexter's aching head hurt more so he sat down and stared out at the Statue of Liberty as the ship approached.
