The clearing was stained black with blood, glowing fitfully in the starlight. Barely visible even to vampiric eyes, a figure was lying deathly still hidden at the centre.

Lleucu raced over too, somehow miraculously not slipping in the still-wet blood. She knelt beside the figure, her sister. Somehow this was the one occasion her strange new defensive urge didn't activate.
