She couldn't argue that, even if she'd thought of a counter. The lump which had formed in her throat when he'd mentioned Liam's name prevented her from trying to speak. She blinked rapidly and turned away in an attempt to hide the tears.

It's not fair of you to use that against me, she muttered lowly, but he heard that anyway. She knew it when she felt his arm around her, her hand being squeezed reassuringly by his. Looking up at him, she swallowed down another painful lump, stricken by how similar they were. Or had been. Identical. Now he was some rotting corpse, or...... no. She shook her head, unable to bear thinking of such things. She couldn't afford it. They couldn't.

Sam sighed and grabbed her guns, the only thing she could do was walk, down along the rest of the god damn channel until she came to England, the only place she could think of. Her aunt lived her, a lovely old woman who did spirital readings, and she would help. The old bird may be nearly sixty, but zombies sure as hell wouldn't take her down. She was more skilled at fighting and handling guns better than Sam and her father put together. The old girl would survive this... right? Sam hoped so anyway. She grabbed the duffle bag from the back seat of the car - which was stained with blood a little - and shoved her guns, food and ammunition in it. After she climbed out the car at the same time hanging the bag off her shoulder. She pulled the shot gun from the holster on her back and pumped it.
"Right, you," she said, looking down at the bump showing through her tight t-shirt, "let's go before we end up chow."
She set off down the tunnel, sometimes running, most of the time walking.

Not when even seeing him, every second, was another bitter reminder of what she'd lost. But she wouldn't ask him to go. She couldn't do that to him, and a part of her didn't want to lose him either.

Sam swallowed a little as the baby kicked again. She didn't even know the sex, she had no idea what sort of baby was inside her. Jeff and herself has said they had wanted a boy, but Sam wasn't so sure anymore what she wanted. She wanted a boy so it could be that little piece of Jeff that she had left, but she wanted a girl, someone she could dress up and play Barbies with...
That's if she survived all this. Sure, she was trained, but she wasn't brilliant, one grade down from her Black belt in karate, her aim wasn't brilliant, but okay. Somethings can only get you so far. What happened if she ran out of ammunition, or she got trapped with no way out? A fresh tear rolled down her cheek as she broke down for the seventh time that day. She really missed Jeff, she wished he was here, pulling her into his warm, strong arms and telling her everything was okay... but he was dead, along with her parents and her sister. She just hoped her Aunt was still alive.

What will we do then, Daniel? she asked gently, but still pushing the issue. She needed to. We can't hide away forever. None of us can.

He hesitated, trying to find some solution, torn between the urge to protect her and the twins at all cost, and this new desire he'd discovered to go fight, to avenge Liam.

We'll just cross that bridge when we come to it, Cate, he answered at last. His voice betrayed what he really meant: that he didn't have a clue.

Sam stopped and looked in a car that had been abandoned near the entrance of the tunnel, the one that would let her into England. The car had a blood spatter up the passenger door. Sam glanced around, gripping her gun so tight it made her fingers go numb. If anything was here, she was sure it would have attacked by now? Right? These things weren't that intelligent, they were old, rotting corpses of the dead, they couldn't have intelligence. In the old movies, the only thing that drove a zombie was the need to feed, the most basic instinct, the most basic need.
