But South Carolina? I asked. This was actually the first time I had thought about the future since I had arrived.. and I realised now that I didn't want to leave the school. And no matter what I said, I wanted to go back. It seemed ridiculous, but staying here, staying in America just felt plain wrong.

She headed back inside, silently, climbed the stairs and re-entered the room. She muttered a greeting before she'd even looked to see if Lily was still there or not.

Lily was still sitting on her bed, but this time Mark was here with his arm wrapped around her. She was still crying, and he was stroking her hair gently, unable to think of a word of comfort. He managed a brief smile when Brooke came in.

I could still hear all of Greg's complaints as we arrived at the airport - I had booked the flights on some credit card Greg claimed he had gained legally, but I failed to believe that someone who insisted on moving house every two months would ever consider getting a credit card
The wait at the airport was limited and the plane journey was quiet. I wondered if I should really be doing this, but there was nothing stopping me, no one had forced me to leave. I heard Greg's reminder that it didn't matter how nice the house was, we'd still be moving in two months, but I didn't listen. Before I knew it, we were renting a car. Next thing I knew, we were at the house. I stopped in ore for a second. I had grown up here, but still the house shocked me with its beauty.

Brooke sank down onto her bed, fidgetting a little with some of her belongings. She couldn't stop thinking of those brothers she'd met earlier, wondering what'd happened to them to break them so, and why she hadn't been able to simply heal them.
