Have you tried pushing the ability to get another vision? he asked desperately. He didn't even know if pushing it'd be possible. Some abilities couldn't be controlled like that. But it was the only real idea he had.
(It would eventually, but it's gonna take months - the person who had the ability originally couldn't control the visions for a while)

Maybe it'd work if both of us were trying to get a vision though, he offered eventually. He didn't really have any idea of why that'd work. Just clinging to hope, to the one hope he had.

In a second, he'd replicated it. Then he too closed his eyes, trying to force a vision, any vision. He tried using Eoin's own ability too, willing the vision they needed to come.

Nothing happened though. He kept trying, kept pushing, but got zero. Eventually, he just hissed in frustration as he reopened his eyes.

Liz nodded slightly and focused again, she wasn't even sure how to focus on getting a vision. She thought of Eoin, the way he was with Rooreru, the way he was with his son, the missions, the jokes, the first they'd met and finally the first vision she had got of his death. She felt tears brimming in her eyes and quickly wiping them away, hoping Keitaro hadn't noticed. Vision. Eoin. Eoin's future. That's what she was searching for.

He did notice the stray tear, but tactfully decided not to mention it. Instead, he tried to push for a vision like Liz was. He focused on thoughts of his brother in law, memories of Eoin like the time they'd first met and how he was winding Roo up because they were so blatantly acting like a couple then but denying it all. He was even imagining ways to save Eoin in the hope that one would trigger something.

Liz sighed again and dropped, feeling exhausted as if she had run a marathon not stood in a kitchen thinking of her dead friend. She distracted herself by getting a glass of water, knowing more tears would follow if she thought about him. But she couldn't give up on him. It was Eoin.

He kept spending most of his days focusing on those visions, trying to control them. Sometimes he felt like he almost succeeded. At least, they would sometimes follow the pattern of his earlier thoughts, occasionally, but he never saw anything useful. Nothing about Eoin. Briefly he considered whether that meant nothing could be done, but he forcefully pushed that thought away. It couldn't be impossible. Nothing was impossible, with these powers of theirs.

Liz continued trying, slightly more disheartened each and every time. She dropped Shiv off at play group and went to work, she met up for lunch with Adam, she went back to work, she typed, she talked, she wrote, she filed, she argued, she left, she picked Shiv up and she took her home. Gemma came around for an hour or two then went home, Shiv went to bed, and Liz kept trying. She thought of Eoin, of Rooreru, of Aito, of all the people he had left behind.

He'd been back for a week when his sister in law went into the hospital. When he first heard, he was worried, until it was pointed out to him that she was eight months pregnant, as he'd forgotten. The kid had just randomly decided to come early. He contacted Rooreru telling her, but he wasn't sure if she'd be up to coming to visit or not.

He relocated himself to the hospital, and when he arrived outside the maternity ward he was told to wait. He didn't have to wait long though. He suspected that he'd only been contacted after the baby was born; people guessing that he wouldn't want to be waiting around. His brother and sister in law both smiled as he entered. Shizuka lifted the little girl up for him to see.
