She noticed she was babbling, and silenced herself. Eoin looked like he was struggling to find a voice to answer with.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Hey, she smiled, forced, as he answered the door. Are you ready yet? I'm still waiting on Sean...

Half an hour later, they were all ready, and making their way to the cemetery where she'd be buried. It was still raining like the weather wanted to drown the entire city.

Liz had found shelter, and she watched as all the others arrived. She began to wish she had brought Shiv with her, just because she would have someone to hold, someone she could comfort and pretend she was in control of her emotions

Recognising Liz, Sinead crossed over to greet her.

Hi, said Liz, her voice a little gruff from the tears. She hugged Sinead tightly.

Hey, how are you holding up? she asked softly, returning the embrace.

Not bad, mumbled Liz, returning the question.

I'm.... coping, I guess, she sighed. Worried for Eoin, though.

He's not doing well? said Liz, not sure if she was questioning it or not. Of course he wasn't.

She shook her head.
He's really not... I think he keeps blaming himself.

But it's not his fault, said Liz, although she knew that Sinead knew as well as she did.

Sinead nodded, sighing. She knew that Eoin just didn't see it that way, though. He'd tried, and failed, and somehow in his opinion that made it his responsibility. Looking around, she realised that almost everyone had arrived by now.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Liz followed her train of thought, distracting herself by watching the crowd. She stood next to Sinead, just glad she knew someone because being here alone was simply too much.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Soon, the service was about to begin, and Sinead whispered a goodbye to Liz before returning to Sean and Eoin. She gently squeezed her cousin's hand as they entered, trying to somehow offer him some strength.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Liz joined the crowd, entering just behind Sinead, Eoin and Sean, trying to force herself not to look down and hide her tears, already flowing freely from her eyes

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
She listened intently as the service proceeded, wishing she could understand the parts which were in Japanese, too. The little she could interpret didn't seem to be enough. But what could, really? There wasn't anything which could honestly be said to sum up her friend, her recent cousin, who'd been torn from their lives so cruelly. The word tragedy didn't begin to describe what had happened.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Liz struggled to understand the Japanese as well, but she barely listened to the English, either. The words weren't enough, no matter how many were used, there was no way to summarise Rooreru, to really explain the loss everyone was feeling

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
As she listened, tears continued to pour down her cheeks, til she could barely see. She could hardly make out the outline of the coffin before them, its pale wood bedecked with wreaths of flowers. The words continued to wash over her. None of them came close. Looking beside her, she could see that both Eoin and Sean were in similar states to her, whilst Rooreru's family in the front row seemed even beyond tears.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Liz continued to blink away her tears so she could focus on the setting, on the scenery.. on how beautiful the ceremony was. Liz surprised herself by being able to think of it in that way, but it was.. it was beautiful, no matter how agonising it was as well

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
She didn't realise, at first, when all had finished speaking. Everyone got to their feet, walking the small distance to the gravesite, a sombre procession following the coffin. The grave was near where Rooreru's grandparents were buried.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Liz followed the procession, watching as they lowered the coffin into the ground and immediately she wanted to shout out for them to stop, that there was still a chance. Because along with burying her friend, they were burying all hope of saving her

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Sinead too watched, feeling like the lump in her throat was getting thicker per second. It was still pouring down, and she knew by now that this was her doing, the weather expressing her grief like she herself couldn't. Far too soon, Rooreru's coffin was lost from view. She was gone, now. Truly gone. Truly lost.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
They all continued to watch, as earth was poured into the grave above the coffin, slowly filling it up. Slowly, and yet too quickly, too. Anything was too quick when it meant letting go, and accepting that she was gone. It was far too soon.

Re: World 1 - Redemption And Revenge
Suddenly, it was over. All too quickly, it was over. It seemed as if no time had past since Liz had first met Rooreru and now she was watching her get buried. She didn't stop crying even as the ceremony ended
