When Dani, Lily and Christian all appeared outside the house, the front door lay only feet from them in the middle of the lawn. Filled with panic, Dani ran into the house, calling out her brothers name again and again. Lily and Christian followed, seeing her panic and seeing the tears rise in her eyes. Suddenly, an orange glint caught her eye and she felt the hope overtake her. Dropping to her knees, she fumbled with a piece of orange metal and suddenly, she was smiling. Greg, she whispered, nearly inaudibly.
It's metal, pointed out Lily, confused by her friend's sigh of relief.
Dani laughed a little. Yes, it is, she agreed. Picking up a second piece, she threw it against the wall and watched delightedly as the pieces began to move together until they formed the outline of her brother and then his features began to appear.

Have I mentioned how much I hate Ainsprids? asked Greg after he reformed. Dani laughed, whether at his comment or of relief she wasn't sure.
I'm sure it's come up, remarked Dani, still laughing a little. Are you sure you're okay?
Greg sighed a little, picking himself up from the ground. Yeah, I can't be hurt when I'm like that. Are you okay?
I'm alright, she replied, tersely. Pravaos was posing as a teacher at school. She attacked me, but Kylian helped. She made me drink some of her blood.
Greg cursed loudly. You didn't, did you?! he demanded.
It's not like I had a choice! replied Dani, equally as loudly.
You don't understand! It's poison - their blood is poison!

How much did you have?! Was it the pure blood or a potion? fretted Greg, moving quickly around the house to try and find the book. He checked the bookcase and then the desk drawers, walking swiftly into the kitchen to check the cupboards. Dani, Lily and Christian all followed.
She winced, a little, as she tried to remember, but all she could recall was the horribly bitter taste. It was - only a little. Pure blood, it cut itself.. Dani had known there was something evil about the blood, she had been able to taste it.
Good.. sighed Greg, slightly. In a fit of sudden rage, he slammed the kitchen door closed. Where the fuck is this fucking book?!
How long do I have? asked Dani, in a desperate need to know. She ignored her brother's frenzy as she followed him back into the office/lounge. There's a cure, right? Dad wrote one in the book?
Greg slammed his hand down on the desk. Through his anger, tears began to appear in his eyes. What is it? asked Dani, immediately enveloping her brother into a hug.
It takes three days to kill you.. but you'll be weak. Dani couldn't afford to feel the overwhelming fear in her heart, shaking it off, trying to pretend it wasn't possible, but she knew it was. Her own tears began to form as she clung to her brother, clung to the hope that he could safe her. There's an antidote - no, not an antidote. But it slows it effects, prolongs your life. It's in the book, but I can't find the fucking book!
It was only then that it became clear to Lily, painfully clear. Seeing Dani helplessly sobbing, seeing Greg try to summon the courage to admit that he was about to lose his sister, it killed her.

Not long after Daniel and Kylian had left, Nick and Sky also exited the school, pausing only for her to gather some of their stuff. She had no idea what'd be left at her family home. She was just hoping it'd even still be there, really. But she knew straight away that she couldn't face or cope with her parents' home, her own home. She'd ran from those ghosts.

They grabbed the car and just drove, going through a different gate to the one Dani and her supporters were waiting at. For a while, they just drove. Sky kept asking herself if she should have stayed, constantly unsure. She knew Nick wasn't feeling any such doubts. To him, it was all keeping her out of danger.

The Ainsprid took it, spoke Lily, breaking through the sound of quiet sobs and heavy breathing. It must have taken the book.
Dani was almost shocked when she heard Lily speak; she had almost forgotten her friend was there. Well.. then we're going to have to find something else to do. In the book - it said that if I could kill the Ainsprid, the poison disappears, right?
Greg began trying to pick himself together, nodding. He would have spoken, but he was too choked up for words. He couldn't face the idea that his baby sister could be - was - dying. It was impossible. He couldn't let it happen. We need to find the Ainsprid. If we can get a weapon, we can kill it.. and then you're okay.

She turned to Lily, beginning to find the words that would promise to take her back to the school, but she was interrupted.

The smile that lit up Dani's face was priceless - and exactly what she needed. She gathered together a backpack of a few things she deemed necessary including the poor notes Greg had made of their father's work as he had tried to decipher the handwriting. Afterwards, she tried to hurry them along, pretending she wasn't equally as upset to be leaving the house. She teleported all of them to the school gates, where they met Daniel and Kylian.

The Ainsprid got through, the house isn't safe anymore, stated Greg. He spoke in a matter of fact tone, because he knew if tried to show emotion, he would be letting Dani know quite how scared he was.

So where do we go now, then? he asked. He considered offering some of the places he, Sky and Nick had discussed earlier, but hesitated. He wasn't sure if he wanted to bring this fight to those two.

Dani's.. been poisoned. She's only got a few days. We need to kill the Ainsprid before then, or she'll..
Dani appreciated how quickly Mark managed to explain this - she couldn't deal with admitting it just yet. So now we've got three days to do something Greg and I have been trying to do for months.
And something our father was trying to do for thousands of years.
Kylian stepped up with an option. I do not know for sure, but Bella Vicius has a whole array of potions. I am certain that we would be able to find an antidote to the poison there. We also have a lot of weapons, there, but I doubt any are the type you are searching for.
Unlikely, agreed Greg. He also doubted that Dani would find the slight antidote that would lengthen her life there but sounded safer than here. We need to find the weapon, though.

We could teleport, with Dani, offered Kylian. Or there is a boat that leaves from a town near here that will take us there.

I had an idea, volunteered Dani. The book said when the Ancients were around, they lived in this area, right? What's now Britain and the northern Europe. Well.. the weapon would have to be here somewhere.

Put them in museums? Daniel finished for her, grinning. Then he frowned as a new doubt hit him. How do you know the Ainsprid haven't hunted down all these weapons and destroyed them?

Greg, however, smiled. They can't touch them - the weapons burn their skin. They were all dipped in an old potion made from an extinct root, it's poisonous to them.
With a plan, everything seemed so much brighter. Dani was able to put the fact that it would impossibly difficult to find a particular weapon within thousands of museums in only three days out of her mind, allowing actual hope into her heart for the first time today. That's good.
We need to split up, announced Greg. Although the fact that they had to was painfully obvious, no one wanted to call teams. Lily and Christian are with me. Kylian needs to go with Dani to get into the city and Daniel is the best fighter.
