Me? she gasped, though she wasn't really questioning it. Not exactly. She was just a little overwhelmed at the thought of being raised to Captain, the highest rank in the city's defences and army. She recollected herself, and turned back to the issue at hand.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
We have chosen to activate the Detaani, the Speaker answered. Firen nodded at once.
They are the silent assassins, yes? she questioned, though she didn't doubt her own knowledge. She'd heard of the Detaani before, though only briefly. Select individuals, fighters chosen for their power, subtlety and ruthlessness. When they were activated, the magic would cloak them in shadows and give them the power to kill, but it would also sap their lives.

I think it'll work, she nodded. Or rather, I think it's the best option we have. Have they been activated yet?
We were only waiting for you.
She swallowed nervously at that, thinking it sounded like the whole responsibility of the mission somehow lay upon her. If her opinion would be enough to veto it..... that meant any failure would in a way lay on her shoulders. And failure wasn't impossible.

The Council was dismissed, and members left to activate the Detaani. Soon they were ready to leave, to vanish into the shadows and make their way to the other city and their target. They all knew that these witches wouldn't be seen again.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Yet more days passed, and the Detaani had been sent off, never to return. The city was slowly beginning to recover and repair itself. The damage was slowly fading. Every street Nam would pass, she'd see signs of buildings being rebuild, and the shields were visible now, strengthened because of the increased threat. The ground before the walls was still scarred by the marks of the pit that Dark creature had been pulled from.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
She walked slowly downwards, unsure of where she was going, just looking around. She wished she could have offered to lend a hand in these repairs, but in truth she knew she was too weak. She was still recovering from the efforts she'd made personally in the battle. She knew some people were shocked that she hadn't exhausted herself fully. And yet she couldn't feel any real pride from the strange strength she'd displayed, or the fact that she'd saved her home. She just felt hollow.

Still onwards she walked, with that hollow feeling coiling inside her. She wasn't that surprised when she stopped outside the prison building. She should have been, but she wasn't. It was almost as if his presence there was calling to her.... Circh. He enthralled her. Almost as if she had no control over herself she'd walked forwards, talking her way inside once more.

Circh raised his head as she entered the cell block, his expression showing a little surprise.
I didn't expect you to return, he commented. Being the hero of the entire city now, and all.
She smothered a smile at that comment.
I didn't expect it, either, she admitted. I don't know why I'm here.

That sounds a bit strange, he commented again, his voice remaining light. But this time she could realise that he'd just do that when something was troubling him. It unnerved him, really. Him too.
She shook her head as she walked closer to the cell, unlocking it and slipping in before she locked it again. She sat beside him on the low cot.

How is the heroine of the hour, anyway? he asked lightly, mocking her. She laughed.
Fine, I guess, she lied, at first, then changed her mind over what to say. No, not fine. Weirdly empty, and hollow, and I don't know why. And worried.
Worried? Over what? Do you think those will attack again?
She shook her head immediately, knowing that wasn't the cause of her strange anxiety. She hesitated, however.
It's you, she admitted at last.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
What?! he exclaimed. Why?
You said your family would get you from here, and kill you, for failing...... or was that all a lie?
Her eyes narrowed, though the suspicion on her face wasn't really genuine. She believed him, really. She trusted him, somehow. No idea why.
No, that was true...... but why would that worry you? Why would you care? I'm no one to you.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
She shook her head, and sighed. That wasn't true. It was nowhere near true. But she couldn't explain that, or reason it, even to herself.
You said they'd kill you, she repeated. And I promised to save you. I intend to keep that.
He remained silent, unsure of how to react to what she was saying, unable to understand it. Unable to understand her. What was it, between them? It made no sense. None all at. It was crazy.
How.... how long? When do you think they'll come? she asked.
I'm not certain. But they might wait a while. They can. It's not like I'm going anywhere.

Nam smiled slightly at that, but her expression dropped before it was noticeable. She didn't want to give anything away. Just in case it didn't work. She couldn't let herself raise his hopes like that. Just in case.
But her mind was already busy, formulating plans and scenarios. She was powerful, wasn't she? Incredibly, unbelievably powerful, apparently........ she was only just beginning to see her potential. She must be strong enough to save him. To trick them. To make them believe they'd gotten to him, when in truth she'd have kept him safe. She had to.

Her mind continued to whirl with these plans, these ideas. But she was careful not to give any sign, at all. She made a wordless promise, as she got to her feet, and exited, locking the door behind her. She wouldn't fail. She wouldn't let herself fail him.

She returned home, and spent the entire evening developing her plans, coming up with a strategy. She researched and practiced and found out what she could do, until she was certain she'd be able to succeed. Then she returned, secretly, unknown, to the gaol.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Keeping herself invisible and unnoticeable by the first of many spells she'd cast tonight, Namarien crept into the prison and made her way down into Circh's cell. The guards had no perception of her presence. Neither did he, being fast asleep by now, and looking eerily peaceful. The sight made her smile, for a second. She again unlocked the cell door, and let herself in.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Silently she moved over to him, checking around her to ensure there were none around to see, to witness. There weren't. Again she reached out with her magic, twisting the air and creating confusion spells, preventing any from detecting what would happen next, ever. It'd remain secret. And when the enemies would come, they'd believe that Circh was still there, and they'd believe that they'd successfully killed him, when truly he'd be safe, with her.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Several more hours had passed, before she felt confident enough that these illusions would work, that they'd hold. Circh had given no sign of stirring. Next, she focused, trying to build up enough energy for the next part of her task. Enough to placeshift.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Closing her eyes, she focused intently and tried to dredge up enough energy for this. She thought only of her target location. A small shacklike building on the grounds of her family home. Small, secret. That ought to be safe enough..... she threw her mind there, and focused, and strained, and fought to be able to save him. Her grip tightened on his unconscious arm as the world vanished for them both.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
When the world snapped into existence again, she knew she'd succeeded. She could look around them, and recognise the surroundings for those she'd chosen. This was where she'd hide him. This was where she'd keep him safe, and protected. This was where she'd save him.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
She sat crosslegged next to where she'd laid him, her eyes closed as she focused, weaving every protective and disguising spell she could think of. The night slowly wore on. She was still doing this. Eventually, as dawn broke, she sighed and admitted she'd have to return to the main house. She whispered a low goodbye as she left, even though she knew he'd hear nothing, and she made her exit.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Over the next days, feigning normality was almost torture. But she managed it. She gave no reaction when she overheard reports that a prisoner had died in the cells, with no real explanation, some strange illness, apparently. She acted as if she hadn't even heard it. But inside, she filled with glee, as she realised she'd succeeded in fooling them. That surely meant Circh was safe, didn't it?

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
A week had passed before she felt secure enough to go visit him. She'd been afraid that someone could notice her entering, and get curious, but she also knew she couldn't leave him there forever without offering any explanation. She forced herself to gain the courage to do so.
What am I doing here? he greeted her, looking up as she entered. Why did you bring me here?
I had to hide you, she replied.
