Do you see? he added finally, startling her.It would be pointless.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Over the next days, Asaph found that Firen's revelation was haunting him. Before then, he'd been able to force his feelings away, tell himself they were meaningless and ignore them. But now....
He shook his head. They were still meaningless, futile. He knew that. He knew how it had to be. And he never thought he'd sympathise with Mikala his former fiancee, never thought he'd understand her and the way she'd felt and the decisions she'd made.

He did, now. He did almost painfully. This was evident in his appearance and behaviour, though he didn't realise that, and eventually someone questioned him on it. She was an old family friend, a seer.
What is on your mind, Asaph? she asked.
Nothing, he lied.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Summer nodded absently. She was still in her state of shock, but she was responding automatically, on autopilot. Her birth mother's decision and the adoption process had been part of what she and Owen and Blake had seen. Being handed over to the parents she knew, too.Wayward Daughter wrote:That probably means that you're related, Alysson interjected. Distant cousins or something. And that the rest of us aren't.
She smiled slightly at that, though secretly she found it weird. As small children, it'd been her and Billie who'd pretended to be cousins or long lost sisters. That was what you'd expect with childhood best friends.
Hang on, though, she continued. Didn't you say before that you're family are like anti-witches? That doesn't sound like a family who've had magic for centuries. And now with Blake and Owen too.... Summer, were you adopted?

I thought you'd learned as a child how purposeless it is to lie to me, she remarked.
It was not a lie.... or not an intentional one. If I said it was nothing, I meant that it was nothing of import. Or that it is nothing I can explain clearly.
Everything is of import, Asaph, she corrected. And you were thinking of Firen.
He shrugged, then decided he might as well admit that part of the truth, and nodded.
You're in love with her.

He started at that, eyes widening. He began shaking his head. He was stopped though by the slight smile on her lips, knowing his denial and the reasoning behind it.
But you fight it, don't you? she questioned. Try to drown and bury it, think it's purposeless. Why is that?
You know why, he answered. Firen's not one of us. She's simply human.

The Seer smiled again, almost as if she were inwardly laughing.
That isn't true, Asaph. She may be human - currently - but her family, her bloodline .... they're amongst the most powerful to have ever walked this earth.
He stared, disbelieving. That powerful?! Then how...? How did she have no power of her own? Why had she never mentioned this?
Unfortunately, I can't sense much more than that. But she's potent.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
They travelled quickly, and reached their destination in just over a week. They were both welcomed back with open arms. She asked for more information, and though they were quick to reassure her that It hadn't returned, it was clear that the increasing attacks they described were terrifying them. They were struggling to hold back, they admitted.Wayward Daughter wrote:Hope didn't ask these questions though. She left them silent in her mind. Before the day was over, Nam had packed all of her possessions she could carry, and had left the city of Oherin, travelling away once more. The only person who'd offered a word of protest was Circh. And that desisted once she agreed to take him with her.Wayward Daughter wrote:What are you going to do? Hope questioned, her voice quiet and soft.Wayward Daughter wrote:Who's Arienne? her sister in law asked, confused, as Namarien reached for the letter. I've never heard the name before.
It was the alias I claimed when we were in hiding, she answered, distracted. That city had written to her. They were asking for her to return. Claiming that they needed her. For a second, a chill ran down her back, as she considered the thought that her old enemy could have somehow returned. The first fight had nearly ended her. But no, that was impossible... when she'd reached the Place of Echoes, she had been told that she'd gained her victory.
What else can I do? I have to answer it. Return there.
Her sister in law shook her head. She didn't understand it. Why was Nam so willing? She hadn't even thought of refusing, it appeared. And they'd only just won back the opportunity of peace. Didn't she want the time, the chance, to enjoy that?

Nam didn't hesitate before volunteering to fight again, and Circh followed. They were both signed back into the city's army. Nam wondered if she should contact her home and try to negotiate an alliance. Would that just risk dragging her own people into the war? Should she fight their side on her own?

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
She didn't honestly know what to decide, and so she made no real decision. She swiftly fell back into the routine of fighting. It was nothing as bad as it'd been the previous time - or perhaps she'd become accustomed. There were deaths, and injuries, but none of that earlier terror. No feel that defeat was almost inevitable. She didn't realise the possibility that maybe this new hope came from her own presence, an immortal amongst them even if they didn't know what Immortals were. They'd seen her power. They'd heard of what she had done.

Asaph had returned home with those words ringing in his mind. In one sense, they were a relief. It was so much simpler when his emotions and desires weren't forbidden. But in another way... he had no idea what to do now. With Mikala, he'd been so young when the engagement was made that he'd been certain of it by the time he'd been old enough to care. Her own wedding had been recent, so he hadn't had much opportunity to think of finding a new fiancée. Until now.

He didn't know what to do. She had no family he could approach - was he meant to just ask her? He was certain he wanted to, though. He'd never been more certain in his life. And in the end, that was exactly what he did.

He headed over to Eliora's home once more, and spoke for a short while with his sister. It wasn't long before he asked if he could speak with Firen alone. Eliora looked confused and questioning. But she shrugged and accepted. She told him that Firen was in the second living room, and he walked in there. Firen glanced up as he entered. She smiled for a second, automatically, then faltered. The moment felt awkward.

Watching her, he could tell that she was remembering their conversation the last time they'd met. He could tell that she was feeling embarrassed over it, too. The awkwardness in the air seemed to infect him, make him feel hesitant.

Do you remember what we talked about before? he asked. She looked up again, startled.
How could I not remember? she replied.
Well.... all of that.... it doesn't matter...

It doesn't matter?! she echoed. She looked stunned. How....? What do you mean?
He smiled slightly. He moved to sit beside her, so close that they were almost touching.
I mean that it doesn't matter what you are - that you're not like me, not Nephilim. I still feel the way I feel.

She was watching him, wordless, as he spoke. He reached out, taking hold of her hand. His touch sent shivers through her.
And do you... still...? he asked. Still wordless, she nodded.

He smiled at that, a smile which clearly showed the relief and joy and hope he was now feeling. She couldn't help wondering why he'd ever feared she'd changed her mind. It'd only been a day ago! And right now, with the way she felt towards him, she couldn't imagine a day when she'd have changed her mind.

His hand was still on hers, idly stroking the skin by now. He was still smiling, and watching her closely. She shivered. He was looking directly into her eyes, she could see their green light reflected, and she dropped her eyes downwards. They landed on his lips. She found herself leaning inwards, almost without thinking. His hand left hers, wrapped itself around her neck. She let herself be drawn inwards. Their lips met.

Almost immediately, his grip around the back of her neck tightened, and his fingers twined through her hair. His other arm wrapped around her waist. She kissed him back, letting the passion between them rise, letting herself be pressed against him.

She felt like she could have been kissing him for hours when he finally let go, stepped away. Her entire skin still felt like it was tingling. She knew that she was staring at him, awed.
So what I am doesn't matter, huh? she asked. He nodded. It wasn't the entire truth - but he didn't want to get into that. If he explained what his seer acquaintance had spoken about, he didn't know how to prevent it from becoming a demand for her to explain her own secret past. And as she'd remained silent on it, he didn't want to push her about it.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
Hours after Asaph left, Firen found herself wondering what they were now. She was realising that she didn't know these people's social rules about this sort of thing. In some ways, they were strangely old fashioned.Did it mean that she and Asaph were a couple, dating? Or was it a secret? She remembered again him claiming that her past didn't matter, and wondered if that might be because he was planning on hiding it all.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
It took her some effort - too much effort really, she thought - to push those questions to the back of her mind. But she forced herself to do so. She didn't see Asaph again for a few days, and she forced herself not to wonder if there was anything behind that, either. Whatever would come between them, it would come. That was the fatalistic attitude of bloodwitches towards destiny, and it seemed that she still retained it.

Less than a week had passed when he did reappear at his sister's house where she was staying. When he did, he asked her to take a walk outside with her. She agreed. She let him lead her, her fingers tingling where he'd taken hold of her hand, and she forced herself not to ask him where they were going or what this was about. He was strangely quiet.

Re: World 9 - Mythical Crossover
As they walked, they remained silent, and she found herself looking around at their surroundings since she felt too awkward to look at him. It wasn't a part of the city she'd travelled to before. Of course, she hadn't seen much of it. After the attack where she'd first met Asaph, she'd felt too insecure in her still-new lack of magic and her lessened ability to fight for herself, so she'd stayed mainly indoors. She'd also expected the city to resemble the one she'd originally grown up in. Plain buildings, industrialised, build up but nothing to actually admire. Nothing on Oherin.
